23 February 1897 — 3 Savile Row
Tuesday. 23rd [February 1897]. I painted in the studio in the morning. I received a telegram about 11 to say that the Empress Frederick would come to call on me between 4 & 5—so I did not go out driving– At 4 oclock Countess M. Perponcher came alone saying that H.M. had got an attack of fever & had had to go to bed—so all Bertha’s good tea had been prepared in vain. After Mlle Perponcher had left, Miss Emily Maxwell & Miss Fraser came to tea—my sister & then Nellie & I went out for a short walk. Louis Du Cane called late. Miss Oswell & Lady Gregory dined with Nellie & me.
