30 April 1897 — Bessborough, Fiddown, County Kilkenny
Friday. 30th [April 1897]. Received a telegram from Blanche to say she & Onie would return today for dinner. We made endless guesses as to the reason of this sudden determination. It turned out that not having recovered a box they had lost on their way to the Mayos they hade been obliged to give up going to a ball tonight at Dublin & to come home. Great are the lamentations over the loss.
