14 June 1897 — Bere Cottage, Bere Regis, Dorset
Monday. 14th [June 1897]. Went to Chamberlain’s bridge with Arthur DC. to fish but the wind was high & I could do nothing. After lunch I drove the poney carriage over to East Stoke to call upon a Mrs Butler (née Anson) whose husband is Rector of East Stoke. I had to go nearly to Wool & turned off on the Wareham road. I found Mrs Butler at home & with her a Miss Anson & Mrs Farrar the wife of the Rector at Bere. After having tea & a little talk I drove home taking a pretty road over Wool Heath. Nellie Alderson returned from Hatfield & Mr Wyld also came. Also a Mr Phipps a friend of Arthurs. Onie sang after dinner– My brother Arthur was in tremendous spirits & very amusing. I have not seen him like it for years.
