10 July 1897 — Bere Cottage, Bere Regis, Dorset
Saturday. 10th [July 1897]. I took Ruth out driving & we went to a village called Milburn where Cardinal Morton had lived. We came back by the ruins of Weatherbury Castle & had a most lovely drive. I sat up again talking to Arthur & played besique with him sitting out in the garden with a lamp to see by till near 1 A.M. It was a very hot night—not a breath of air. The geranium overhead as we sat out was very sweet & the white flowers fell all round us.
