15 July 1897 — Bere Cottage, Bere Regis, Dorset
Thursday. 15th [July 1897]. Breakfast in my room & wrote letters till 11. Had a perfectly quiet day. Lunch at 1.30. Dined at 6.15 & then went to a service at 7, where the combined choirs of 2 or 3 parishes sang an Anthem. The church was full. The choirs came in in their white surplices singing a hymn headed by the curate Mr Bellairs who carried a banner. During the service Mrs Bellairs led the music waving a baton from the Chancel steps. One of the choir accompanied the singing with a bugle wh he played well. When it was over I went down to Cobbs & fished & caught a trout 1 lb. Home at 9.15. Patience, tea & bed at 10.30.
