1 November 1897 — Ca’ Capello, Venice | |
Monday. 1st November [1897]. I took a box at the theatre for Nela that she might go & see Duse act but on seeing in the morning’s paper that she was giving “La Dame aux Camelias” I resolved Nela should not go so after lunch we went to call on the Haseltines to see if they wished to have my box. They were out so we walked from the Hotel della Luna to the Piazza & there met Maria Cozzi & Ersilia Canevaro & walked with them—finally we met the Haseltines & as they had already taken a box I sold mine at the box office only losing 5 fcs on it. We brought Mrs & Miss Haseltine back to have tea with us & then sent them back to the Luna in my gondola. | |
