5 December 1897 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Sunday. 5th [December 1897]. At last there were some gleams of light. The wind abated & it ceased raining. But there was a very high tide. Nela & I went off to the service at 10.30 at the Pal. Morosini but could not get in by the water door—had to land at the Traghetto S. Maririgio & walk round so that we were very late. After lunch we went to Passini’s studio to see a water colour picture he has just finished. There we found the Montalba family & we took Clara & Hilda with us & went to see Mr Eden. Carry was out so we did not remain very long. Left the Montalbas & came home to tea in my bedroom & Nela read aloud some of Arthur Stanley’s Eastern Church.
