7 December 1897 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Tuesday. 7th [December 1897]. Painted in morning. Mr Rd Arkwright & his friend Mr Richmond came to lunch with us. They had kodaks with them & took several photographs of Nela & me– At 3 we went out in gondola & we took them to the Edens garden where they took more photos & we walked about for some while. Took them to the Piazza & there left them to return to their hotel. They had called on me yesterday & I was anxious to be civil to them as Dick Arkwright was a great friend of my brother Ivor’s in our youths & had been a special favorite with all us young people– His sister Fanny had been my great friend & all his brothers & sisters were friends of the Guest family. I found Dick very little changed in spite of the 30 years we had not met—a little deaf, but jolly & funny as of yore.
