23 January 1898 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Sunday. 23rd [January 1898]. We went to morning service & took Iduna but she had to leave in the middle of service as she felt so cold. We fetched her afterwards & took her to see a house she wanted to see opposite her own house—as she has to find a new apartment. The one she now has in the Pal. Brandolin is wanted for the young Brandolin couple—the eldest son who is going to marry the D. della Grazia’s daughter. Susanne came to say on consideration she cannot come & cook as she has the care of her master’s dogs in his absence. The 2nd gondolier is laid up with influenza—& so I wrote to put off the Guiccioli & said we would go to Vicenza to see them on Thursday next. Mr Woods called to see me abt 6 o’cl to tell me how the church renovation is going on.
