22 January 1898 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Saturday. 22nd [January 1898]. Regina was terribly frightened about Pasquale who had a bad night & rushed off for Dr Cini. He said there is no cause for alarm, but we begin to wonder whether I can entertain the Guiccioli after all on Monday. I have written to warn them that Influenza is in the house—as they may fear to come. It is so catching I also went to see if Mrs Eden’s cook Susanne wd come & cook for us. She agrees to come.
