17 February 1898 — 3 Savile Row
Thursday. 17th [February 1898]. The dressmaker came at 9.30 to try on my dress– Alice Hallam Murray came to lunch with me. I went to Half Moon Street & saw Arthur who is better. After lunch I walked to Cavendish Square & met Blanche on the road coming to me so she turned & we went to her house & had a little talk abt her Irish Industry work. I then went to the Zoological Gardens & took Blanche’s little girl Gwenth with me. I wanted to see if I could find a tame bird as Arthur wants me to buy one. We did not find any & so after giving a cursory look round the animals we returned to our homes to 5 oclock tea. I dined with Lady Thompson & met Lady Reynolds. There was only Sir Henry & Mr Herbert Thompson besides. At 10.30 Mr Thompson walked with me & left me at 17 Cavendish Sqr where I found the Duncannons had had a dinner party. I found there Lord & Lady Stanhope—Lord & Lady Reay &c. Mr F. Cavendish Bentinck asked to be introduced to me that I might give him the last news of Venice wh I accordingly did. Francie Thesiger was there & we shared a cab on our way home to bed.
