14 March 1898 — 3 Savile Row
Monday. 14th [March 1898]. Blanche called for me in the morning & took me in her carriage to Cav Sqr to see the work she had prepared for the sale on Thursday next at Lansdowne House. There I met Connie & she walked back to Savile Row & lunched with me—leaving directly after. I walked to Half Moon Street saw Arthur for a moment & then went for a walk with Nelly & got home at 4.30. Lady Bessboro’ called with her daughter Lady Kathleen Skinner & at that moment my sister Kate Alderson arrived from Lutterworth to stay with me. Nela DC. came to tea. Today my maid Annie Lawes left me– She has been with me 2 years & tho she was a hard peevish girl to whom I am not really attached—I feel the going of her out of my life in a curious manner– It seems so odd a person should be about you day & night for so long a time—& then pass out of yr life altogether! I arranged that Laura the housemaid shd look after me till I find a suitable maid. Kate shares my room with me & is pleased to come to town for a bit.
