1 April 1898 — 3 Savile Row
Friday. 1st April [1898]. Mrs M. Brook the dressmaker came to fit on a dress. I then went off to Brook St to meet Blanche & walked with her & returned home for lunch. After lunch went to see Arthur & then to see Elaine at Wimborne House. Cornelia was also at home & pressed me to go to her party tomorrow night. I told her I could not—& finally broke down. I am not fit for London society & coming from Half Moon Street where I saw Arthur sitting in his arm chair looking gaunt in white shawls & wrappers made all my sad thoughts crowd up again. Nellie joined me & we walked together to Brook St where we found Blanche & she & I went on in a cab to Sloane St to shop & I got back home soon after 5 very tired– Dined alone & went early to bed. Nellie dined out.
