Sunday. 17th [April 1898]. I went to morning service at the German Chapel Royal at 10 then abt 11 went to see Arthur & on home. Had a quiet afternoon no one coming but Mrs Clay Ker Seymer for a short while. At 7 walked to S. Audley St to see the Rates. They were not visible so I took a cab & drove up to Maria’s & stayed to dinner there. Maria was not well—had cramps in her hands & had to leave the table & go to bed very early. Dacre walked home with me at 10–
