15 May 1898 — 3 Savile Row
Sunday. 15th May [1898]. Arthur had a better night—all symptoms are improved. He got on his couch & was wheeled into the drawing room by ten oclock & had his breakfast there & eat a good one. There was a yellow fog & it got very dark at times. I did not go out. Nellie went to morng service at St Paul’s. I sat with Arthur. Louis DC came to lunch. Arthur was wheeled back to his room for lunch & then went to bed abt 4 & remained there. He slept a great deal all day & his head was clearer tho’ he had a difficulty in finding his words. I sat with him for a few moments in between whiles. Sir Henry Thompson came to tea with me– He seems very well & full of life—& is wonderful for his age & being so frail. Nela came also & sat some time with me– Mr Bond came to see Arthur at 8 & said he found him better than yesterday. Nellie & I dined at 8 in studio– Bed early.
