22 May 1898 — 3 Savile Row
Sunday. 22nd [May 1898]. I went to the German Chapel Royal to the 10 o’cl service. Nellie went to St Paul’s. Arthur was a great deal in his own room today. His head was not very clear. Gwenth Ponsonby & her governess came to lunch & Mildred Mansell also– She went up to see her father afterwards & he was pleased to see her. She stayed but a short time. Charlie Wyld came to tea also Augustus Alderson & Col. E. Mansell Pleydell– Connie came to see me—also her 2 girls & Nela Du Cane. At 6.30 I walked to Cav. Sqr & sat with Blanche who was not very well & was on the sofa in her bedroom. I dined there with Edward & Onie & Irène & Mary Alderson. It is decided the Gladstone is to have a state funeral on Saty next. Edward talked politics to me & thinks there will be many changes in English politics before this time next year—& in Europe in the next 30 years.
