21 August 1898 — Hatfield
Sunday. 21st [August 1898]. Sent Fanny & my maid Knapp by an early train to Potter’s Bar to search for Turk. Knapp returned abt 1 having walked here from there. Fanny came later by train– She had heard of a dog being found—& we hope it may turn out to be Turk. Nellie & I went to morng service & coming out of church Nellie spoke to Lord Salisbury’s agent Mr McGowan & he promises to help to search for Turk. It has been a tremendously hot day & we had to sit with closed windows & shutters till abt 6 P.M. when Nellie, Monty & I went & sat in the Hatfield Gardens & took a little walk.
