20 December 1898 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Tuesday. 20th [December 1898]. I left by 9.55 train & found Mr & Mrs Curtis there. They were on their way to Rome to stay at the Hotel D’Europe. I & my maid Knapp got out at Stanghella & got to Vescovana for lunch time—& found a hearty welcome. As usual D. Antonio dined & spent the evenings with us. We had lovely weather but cold & frosty. I had tea in my room at 8—dressed & set to work at my Spanish work. Sometimes the Css drove out with me to the farms– When she did not go out I walked out with the four big dogs the Bon family & Lin-lin the little white Spitz.
