22 January 1899 — Rome
Sunday. 22nd January [1899]. I went to morning service at the English Ch. in via Babuino. Did not go out again. At 2 had a visit fm Mme Enrichetta Castellani widow of the antiquarian who had been such a friend of Henry’s—& while she was with me in came Prince Odescalchi to whom I had brought a letter of introduction fm Css Pisani. He is a middle aged man & seems to be interested in antiques & says he will show me his own collection some day. Later came Count de Basterot & Ersilia Canevaro & Maria Cozzi. I gave them tea. Adeline Bedford came to see me & I half persuaded her to come & meet me at Paris when I go homewards. The Curtis came to call on me quite late before dinner & sat some time talking of books.
