16 March 1899 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Thursday. 16th [March 1899]. No paper so could not go on typewriting. Out in gondola after lunch—before lunch did spring gardening with my old servant Pasquale. Called on B. & Bss de Vuillet friends of Css Pisani’s and invited them to come to luncheon tomorrow. Mr Brown came to have a talk on Sailor’s Institute affairs. I had hoped the whole thing was to be reorganized. I was much disappointed when he said the new Chaplain was quite dissatisfied with the present management & so I left it all alone intending bye & bye to withdraw altogether.
