29 April 1899 — En route to London
Saturday. 29th [April 1899]. When we got to Calais we found it blowing (1 P.M.) so Lady Rendle & I agreed to get a Private Cabin together & we were lucky eno’ to get one for it was very rough & my companions were very sick. We parted at Dover & I took the train to Charing Cross & arrived there abt 6 & went straight home. Nellie Alderson was there having remained there since I left England. Monty my brother is also at home. Arthur Du Cane came to see me. I went to 17 Cavendish Square & dined with the Duncannons. It is an old established custom to dine with them on my arrival in London—& Henry & I had done so for years– I came home early glad to get to bed.
