10 May 1899 — 3 Savile Row
Wednesday. 10th [May 1899]. Mary & I walked to Cav. Sqr in the morning to congratulate the Ponsonby family on the success of their ball & to enquire after their healths. The girls were still in bed. Blanche had been out. I sat with her a bit & we returned home to lunch. Blanche is anxious I should try & arrange something abt Nellie’s marriage with Mr Wyld. At 3 I sent Mary to a concert & then went out driving alone. Nellie has a bad cold & could not go to her bonnet shop all day. After tea I went to 23 Bruton St to see Lady Humphrey & finding her & Sir Wm alone together, I had a long talk with them abt Nellie’s matrimonial prospects & told them how Nellie would prefer that if anyone speaks to Mr Wyld on the subject it should be Sir William himself. After a long confab we concluded that Nellie should first go & talk to Sir William herself. Dined at home with Nellie & Mary & went early to bed.
