9 July 1899 — 3 Savile Row
Sunday. 9th July [1899]. I had a bad night—but breakfasted at 8 as usual—& went to the Service at the German Chapel Royal & then returned home at 11 & sat quiet. It is still very hot. Just before lunch Mr. Burton came to see me. He is against my going to Carlsbad—& advises me to consult Dr Weber (Sir Herman). I lunched alone– At 4 Nellie & I drove to Cavendish Square saw Blanche & then drove on to Finchley Road to see Ivor & Cornelia. Sat out with them in the little garden of Frognal Bank the house they have hired for a short time. Met there Corise Rodney who had come down with Fred Thesiger also Elaine & Mr Villiers who are staying there. Little Oscar Guest was also there. We sat out in the garden & had tea. Ivor is ordered to Plombières & is to go there on 28th. It may be I may manage to get leave to go with him & I think I will try. Drove back to 25 Park Crescent to see Maria. Richard Du Cane was just coming in to his house & as we heard that Maria & Nela were in the Square Gardens he & I joined them there & sat talking a while. After wh Richard & I walked down Portland Place talking. He tells me there is a slight hope of the Rhuvon Merthyr law suit being compromised. He left me at Oxford St & returned home & I walked on to Savile Row. Onie Ponsonby dined with me & Nellie.
