4 October 1899 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Wednesday. 4th [October 1899]. Still tremendous scirocco. Lady Henry brought Mr & Mrs Bertram Russell & the clergyman of Eastnor to see this house & the pictures. At the same time Mr & Lady Victoria Russell came so I showed them over the rooms at the same time. After lunch I went to call on Mme Hurtado & found her at home. To my surprise I found her grown as thin as a girl of 16. For years she has been a big heavy woman. Idita Bentivoglio says the Drs say there is no harm in it but to me that seems doubtful—it is so unnatural. It has all come about since I left Rome in Feby. Clara & Hilda Montalba came to tea at 5 & also Mr Albert Ball. Iduna Bel dined with me.
