8 November 1899 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Wednesday. 8th [November 1899]. Early breakfast at 8 in my own room. At 10 walked to S. Vio & attended morning service. There was no one there but Fannie & myself. Afterwards we walked to the Sailor’s Institute to see the new reader & his wife & daughter Mr & Mrs Newman. They seem likely people & she was hard at work cleaning. We walked back to Pal. Rezzonico & lunched at 12.30. Then out with Fannie in gondola & back to tea at 5. Sir Wm & Lady Dyer came to tea & while Fannie showed Lady T.D. round the house & the lace work from her school at Asolo I had a long pleasant chat with Sir Wm & it was late when they departed. Fannie & I dined at 7.30 & then sat talking till 10.30—she confiding to me all her difficulties. She certainly is behaving very well & Pen is a perverted little creature & very aggravating.
