4 December 1899 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Monday. 4th [December 1899]. I went out in the afternoon to have tea with Idita at Palazzo (Reck) Fontana. The tide was so low I had to get out of the gondola which stuck in a small canal & get across the Grand Canal by the Traghetto. There were a good many people at tea amongst them Baroness Reinelt a Triestine & rich who is desirous of establishing herself here. She is a friend of the Canevaros & her husband is a rich banker. The Canevaros amuse people here by insisting on calling her “Son excellence Mme Reinelt”– She seems a kindly goodnatured rather bourgeoise person. I walked home from Iditas escorted by Mr Moore whom I met there. Received in the evening & had a good many people—more than usual.
