19 December 1899 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Tuesday. [19th December 1899]. I was up by 9 as Prof: Trombini came to make a photograph for me of a corner of the drawing room with me sitting there—but the sun shone in so he cd not do it & promised to return at 1 o’cl. Fanny Browning came in to speak to me & went in gondola with me as far as the Montalba where I went to sit for my portrait. I walked home in time to get the photo: done. Mrs Browning came to lunch with me—& at 2 I went off to fetch Carry Eden & we went round the antiquity shops & completed the buying of Rosie Ridley’s bedroom furniture. Then to the Piazza—& walked to Carry’s house (Palazzo Barbarigo) where I had tea & talked over the war with Mr Eden & then home at 6 to rest. Ellen & Hilda Montalba came in for a few minutes & Fannie came later to dine with me.
