20 December 1899 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Wednesday. 20th December [1899]. I went for the last time to sit to Hilda. The portrait is not finished but it will now have to be left till the spring or whenever I return to Venice. It began to snow as I returned home to lunch—so Fannie Browning sent to say she would come to sleep at my house tonight as it was so cold at Pal. Rezzonico. She came in time for dinner. I put her to sleep in the little room next Henry’s dressing room– Her maid next & in the next room she is to have as a sitting room when I am away for I have persuaded her to make this her headquarters this winter.
