24 December 1899 — Villa Pisani, Vescovana
Sunday. 24th December [1899]. We read the papers together—I reading the Times War News aloud– We began also FitzGerald’s Transvaal from Within which I read aloud. I took an hour’s walk up & down the “barchezze” under the house in the afternoon accompanied by “Lin” the little white Spitz dog. We dined at 7 & had on the table the Christmas Tree which I had brought from Venice & in front of it the little “presepio” with toy lambs in front of it. The Countess was pleased.
