13 January 1900 — 3 Savile Row
Saturday. 13th [January 1900]. I was just going out for a walk at 3 o’cl with Nellie when a cab drove up to the door containing my sister Maria & her maid. She walked with difficulty led by the maid & did not go upstairs. She is now very feeble & complains of weakness in her knees– She is terribly bent & it is evident that her spine is much affected. I do not think that the palsy seems encreased. She did not remain very long– I went for a short walk & returned home to tea. Olwen Ponsonby came to tea having just arrived from Canford where she had been visiting. I invited her to remain here the night instead of going to the empty house at Cavendish Sqr wh she was glad to do. She dined with Nellie & me & then went to the play with her cousin Rosie Ridley & she came home at 11—& slept in my dressing room.
