16 January 1900 — 3 Savile Row
Tuesday. 16th [January 1900]. Nelly had a headache & did not appear till tea time. I walked out after lunch & called on Mrs Rate—sat with her for an hour– When I left her I met Lady Arthur Russell in Audley St & turned back with her & went into her house 2 Audley Sqr with her & paid her a visit. She has a son out in the War & is very anxious. I went home to tea. Violet Vivian came & tells me her mother is no better & that they have now to certify that she is mad & think of placing her in a home at Roehampton– Rosie & Mat Ridley came to tea also Mr Musgrave an old friend of my brother Arthur’s Registrar of the Divorce Court. The Ridleys were very grateful to me for having found them their old furniture at Venice wh is on its way here– I went to dine with Adeline Bedford & met there Lady Somers. We knitted for the Transvaal War. I agreed to give Adeline all the work of the ladies’ Guild at Venice & she announced it today at the Committee of the Yeomanry fund.
