16 February 1900 — 3 Savile Row
Friday. 16th [February 1900]. Nellie & I took a hansom & went off after lunch to the city to find Mr H. Broderick & to get the answer of the D. of Abercorn’s Committee for which we waited in vain yesterday. We found him in his telegraph office & he told us he had written the letter & finding it had not been sent off he gave it to me & I brought it back with me. We had a committee meeting at 6 o’cl at wh Dr Hyslop presided—& the Dss of St Albans, Dr Bond & Mr Cazenove were present. I offered to be Hon. Secy & it was agreed to. Adeline Bedford told me that it would be better I should accept the post and that it would simplify matters. Lady Gwendolin Cecil, (Lord Salisbury’s daughter) also joined the committee. We drew up a letter to publish in the papers on Monday next & Miss Oswell carried them off to type them.
