24 May 1900 — 3 Savile Row
Thursday. 24th [May 1900]. Had 4 men from Maple’s shop & began to remove the books from what used to be my library & is now Monty’s sitting room. He has a quantity of old English prints which he wants to hang up there & has asked me to move the 3 big book cases. I find I can put one into the dining room, one in the studio & one in my little dressing room. As the dining room was all upset I could not have meals at home so I went off to the Rates & asked them to give me lunch which they kindly did. The moving of the books made me nervous & depressed but when it has settled down I shall be all right. I went to call on the Holmes White—Mrs H. W. day at home– She is nice kind and motherly & we get on very well together. She is very brave over the loss of her young fine handsome son at the war. I dined with Blanche—& Nellie dined out.
