30 May 1900 — 3 Savile Row
Wednesday. 30th [May 1900]. Derby Day. Derby won by “Diamond Jubilee” the Prince of Wales’ horse. Very chilly unpleasant weather. Went to dine with Blanche Lady Lindsay. Only a party of 5 including Prof. Knight & Mr & Mrs Jackson Cook (I think) he is the editor of Murray’s Life of Princess Mary of Teck. It was pleasant & a great contrast to Monday’s dinner—one was able to talk with & get to know the people one met. We talked of Browning & Tennyson both of whom I had known intimately.
