8 July 1900 — 3 Savile Row
Sunday. 8th [July 1900]. Went to morning service in the German Chapel R. I dined this evening quite alone with Blanche Lindsay. A pleasant quiet evening. Connie lunched with me & we fell to talking about the difficulties in getting eno’ money for the Layard Home & she advised me to go & see Mr Burdett Coutts & ask his advice as to giving the whole concern over to the Red Cross—& we walked round to 1 Stratton St together. I found Lady B. Coutts at home so Connie left me at her door. Mr B. Coutts was not there but I told the Baroness my errand & she said she would tell him. Old Sir Harry Keppel was sitting with her & they were just going out for a drive together. She asked me to accompany them which I gladly did & we drove Chelsea way on the river embankment. It was a hot day & the drive was pleasant. She drove us to the Albany where Sir Harry lives & from there I walked home to 5 o’cl tea.
