11 July 1900 — 3 Savile Row
Wednesday. 11th [July 1900]. Today was the garden party at Buckingham Palace. I felt a little like Cinderella as I was not invited to it. Sophy went & my sisters—but I had not been to Court since I am alone & so was left out. Sophy came back at 7—had a little dinner & went off to her own home at Oxford. I dined with the Bishop of Ripon & Mrs Boyd Carpenter at their flat in Carlisle Mansions– Met the Primate of Ireland, Lord & Lady Zetland, Sir Mackenzie Wallace, & Lord Harlech. The Primate who is enormously stout & very infirm could hardly move—his daughter Miss Alexander was very attentive to him. He was very quiet & one saw & heard nothing of the fun & wit he is said to be so known for. Lady Zetland is rather pretty with very fair hair & seemed nice. Our host was full of her praises in his diocese.
