27 July 1900 — 3 Savile Row
Friday. 27th [July 1900]. In the morning it was hotter than ever but towards afternoon a great storm came up. Blanche came to see me after lunch & we watched the storm & welcomed the rain. When it was over she took me out in the carriage & dropped me at the dentist’s where I had to go & I walked home. After tea I had a visit from Arthur Du Cane & then walked with him to see his lodgings in Gr Marlborough Street where there is a nice old fashioned panelled staircase. I had to hasten home on acct of heavy storm drops of rain. The African mail came in this afternoon & brought me a letter from the Dr Wainwright—rather depressed—but still hard at work– Annoyed at getting an R.C. priest sent to him who arrived dead drunk! Difficulty about getting money promised by Logan– I answered this letter after dinner & typed till bed time. Blanche starts tonight for Ireland.
