3 August 1900 — Cresselly, nr. Pembroke, Pembrokeshire
Friday. 3rd August [1900]. Today Mr Allen sent Mary & me for a drive with Mr Wylie to call on Mrs Lewis. The Castle Hean is a new or renovated place & they have not yet lived there long eno’ to make it look very comfortable—but the grounds are very pretty & the Lewis’ took us for a walk to a part of the garden on the cliff overlooking the sea where there are very pretty views– On the way back to Cresselly we stopped at Mr John Allens an uncle of our hosts. The lanes through which we went was so narrow that we could not pass another carriage. Unluckily we met a gentleman in a gig & found ourselves in a dilemma. The occupants of the gig had to dismount & unharness their horse & push the carriage back for abt 100 yards where there was space enough for the carriages to pass each other.
