10 September 1900 — Schloss Friedrichshof, Kronberg
Monday. 10th [September 1900]. We breakfasted downstairs at 9.15. The Empress also. She was carried downstairs. After breakfast she walked with a stick in one hand & taking my arm through the drawing room & then we were dismissed to dress for going out. H.M. went in her poney chair accompanied by Pss Margaret & her twin boys—(one riding on the poney) Ola & I on foot. We went to Cronberg Castle H.M. got out of her poney chair & with help walked about a little in the ground floor rooms– Giving directions about the work of restoring & repairing– She afterwards got into a carriage with Ola & me & drove us to the Hospital which she wished Ola to see. There she got out & with a stick in one hand & taking my arm with the other she walked about & spoke [to] the patients giving them little presents of shawls &c. We then returned to the Schloss & rested from 11.30 till luncheon at 1.30. After lunch we all took coffee on the terrace under a great white & red awning & then at 2.30 retired to our own apartments where Ola & I worked & talked. At 4.30 we went for a drive. Ola & I & The Empress in one carriage & the 2 princesses Margaret & Teo with the Css Perponcher & Ct Seckendorff in the other. We drove through the lovely woods on the road to Limburg & when nearly at the top stopped & had tea served by the road side from baskets we brought with us. H.M. & I sat in the carriage while the rest of the party stood round for the meal. We went on afterwards as far as the [illegible word] & then drove down back to the Schloss. I changed places with Princess Teo & walked a good way with Pss Margaret & we got back a little later. I took a turn in the garden with Ct Seckendorff & Css Perponcher. Did not see the Empress again today. We dined at 8.12 & at 9.30 I went with the 2 Princesses & Seckendorff & Css Perponcher to the house of M. & Mme Cornelius near by to spend the evening. They were very amiable & there were 6 or 7 people there—amongst them a Miss Davis rather pretty—a german lady Mrs Ford who was formerly lady to Pss Charlotte & therefore was a friend of Pss Teo who sat in a corner talking to her the whole evening. We drove back to the Schloss at 11.30. Ola did not go out but went early to bed–
