14 November 1900 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Wednesday. 14th [November 1900]. Fine day took Barbara to the Piazza to look into shops & to make small purchases. Admiral Canevaro & Ersilia, came to call at tea time to bid me goodbye before they start for England. They leave for Milan tomorrow. The Admiral is going on a special embassy to the Queen to announce officially the accession to the throne of Italy. He was very ill last year of a liver complaint & still looks pulled down & rather sallow. Olga Mocenigo dined here & spent the evening in teaching me to make a 4 strand cord which is an occupation she has taken to of late & which she does for nuns & convents.
