27 November 1900 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Tuesday. 27th [November 1900]. Got a note early this morning from Hilda M. saying that as the weather was so splendidly fine she wanted us to go to the Lido to lunch with them in their cabin on the shore. So Gertie & I set off in the open gondola at 12 oclock & were rowed to Quattro Fontane. It was lovely, tho’ rather cold & every thing sparkled in the sun. The tide was against us & we got there just at one oclock. We found Hilda, Ellen & their brother August. They gave us an excellent lunch and then we walked on the shore picking up shells & talking. The sea & sky were as blue as in summer—the fishing vessels with their bright sails all out at sea—& the sun was quite hot. We left a little after 3 so as to be home before sunset. Mme Noce came to see me on my return kindly to enquire about Maria– Gertie & I had a quiet evening & played patience.
