10 February 1901 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Sunday. 10th [February 1901]. Went to morning service which was done by the chaplain of Trieste Mr Thorndyke a fine old gentleman of over 88 years old with white hair & long white moustachios. I walked home after service. It was a splendid day. Mr Horatio Brown lunched with me. I went to the evening service at the Sailor’s Institute & there found Mr Thorndyke & had a long talk with him as we had to wait for the sailors of whom there were a very small number.
