30 March 1901 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Saturday. 30th [March 1901]. Lady Gregory & Robert left by an early train for Trieste to make a tour on the Dalmatian coast & to return here later. Blanche & Edward & their daughter Irene came to stay with me having left London on Thursday & slept last night at Milan. They got here at 6.45. They remained here all the week and amused themselves by going about to antiquity shops buying old furniture. Their boy Bertie joined them here on Thursday 4th April from Harrow where he is at school. Edward went into the affairs of the Venezia Murano Co of wh he is now one of the directors. I accompanied him several times when he went to the shop at S. Vio. to interview the present manager Sr Castellani who is old & inefficient. We went one day to Murano to see the company’s property there. We also went together to see Sr Guggenheim & discussed the matter with him. He is very sanguine as to the success of the affair if entirely reorganised & is ready to go into it himself. Edward went thoroughly into the affair & it will all be taken into consideration when he returns to London & either the Company reformed or the works closed. On Good Friday & Sunday 7th Easter Sunday Edward read the lessons in church–
