12 April 1901 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Friday. 12th [April 1901]. The Gregorys went to Padua for the day. Modelled all morning. Directly after lunch Carry Eden appeared & invited me to go with her to the bead factory at the Madonna del Orto so off we went together in gondola– She had a friend there who took us all over the place. There were several large magazines full of beads in compartments– One mag. was full of blue beads of every different shade—the others of other colours. All beautifully clean & well kept. It appears abt 10 different firms were all working against each other & losing heavily. Then they amalgamated & formed a company & are now making a large profit. I went home to 5 o’cl tea– Donna Laura Minghetti & Mme de Bülow came to see me to bid me good bye as they are leaving Venice.
