25 April 1901 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Thursday. 25th [April 1901]. After lunch I had a visit from Mme Noce who brought with her young Baron Franchetti who wished to study the pictures in this house. I took him also upstairs to my studio & also opened the lace box in my bedroom & showed him the curious pieces of lace I had collected while we were in Spain. He appreciated them better than anyone I have shown them to for a long time & indeed was quite enthusiastic so that he brought back for a time my own enjoyment of & interest in them. I went at 4.30 to tea with Mr & Mrs Curtis at Pal. Barbaro & at 5 went to the Unione per il Bene meeting & by dint of trying to keep the members from chattering we got through some business. We put a gentleman provided with a bell into the chair & I sat next Mlle Giacomelli & put my hand now & then on her arm to stop her inopportune remarks. I only got home at 7—rather tired.
