10 August 1901 — 3 Savile Row
Saturday. 10th [August 1901]. Wrote letters– Finished up all Arthur’s accts & sent them all to Ivor at Wimborne House where he will be today on his way to Scotland. Left by 10.50 train for Dorking & was met by the Rate’s carriage which took me to Milton & there I lunched. Mr Somerset Beaumont came to meet me & drove me to his house Hurstcote at Shere where I am to spend Sunday. He took me after tea to a garden party near given by Mrs Bray, a pretty garden & rather a solemn entertainment. I met there Miss Lewin Mrs Grote’s niece (I think) & a great friend of old Lady Eastlake’s. Mr S. Beaumont has a nice niece a Miss (Stopford) Brooke staying with him & keeping his house. Nellie & my maid & luggage joined me just before dinner. Mr Albert Ball came to stay. The house is quaint & full of lovely pictures—of all sorts—chiefly water colours.
