6 November 1901 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Wednesday. 6th [November 1901]. Verona’s foot keeps her a prisoner in her room & she was not able to accompany us to Treviso where Mr Beaumont took the whole party, viz Emilia & I & Mr Somers Cocks & Mr Byard the singer who is now living at Venice & is an old friend of Mr Beaumont. We stayed at the Hotel Stella d’Oro at Treviso—which is a regular Italian Inn– We got excellent food. Counts Carlo & his brother Emo dined with us & we went off to theatre to hear Wagner’s Walkerie. The theatre was full but being a popular night there were few people of fashion there—& I only recognised Countess Morosini Rombo– I thought the opera dull but it was fairly well given & it has had a great success at Treviso.
