29 January 1902 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Wednesday. 29th [January 1902]. We went after luncheon to see Mrs Harston & then to Mme Noce to meet Mme Barrand Marchesa Herasti who is widow of a Spaniard who is now lady in waiting to the Dss of Madrid here. Mme Herasti has been a lovely woman & is even now very handsome, tall slight, with perfectly white hair good eyes & is well dressed. She was pleased to meet Emilia as both have lived at Grenada. We went on to Palazzo Albrizzi & E. was delighted to see that beautiful house which is the only Venetian Palace well kept up & having old things. It was the Countess’ “day” & all Venice society was there—& there was dancing going on. There was another Venetian house of the Calbo Crotta family which contained lovely old things & the present owner a foolish youth only last week sold the whole inside– Some of the best things were acquired by Css Amina Mocenigo & so are still in Venice.
