2 February 1902 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Sunday. 2nd February [1902]. The snow was over & tho’ the roofs were white in the morning it melted away in the course of the day. It rained on & off all day but I was able to go in gondola to church– The congregation was small. I read to Emilia after lunch till 4 when I went off to the Hotel Vittoria to have tea with Baroness Reinelt & found her waiting for me & afraid I was not coming. Later Ersilia Canevaro came there & her sister & the Swedish Consul and I came away leaving them all in animated conversation. The Baroness had called for champagne that we might drink the health of Maria Cozzi as she told us it was her birthday.
