17 February 1902 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Monday. 17th [February 1902]. Emilia has gone. She left by 8.45 train for Paris & had the Bishop of Peterborough in the same train as an escort & luckily the storm has eased. I modelled all the morning & after lunch went to M. Bompard’s studio to look at his bas relief & to take notes of the relief. Went to the Piazza & bought a brooch for the Bishop to give his daughter & had it sent off by post– Then to Baroness Reinelt & had tea with her. We were alone & I stayed some time talking—she telling me of her former life when she was poor & how in her first husband’s time she worked for her family & hardly had one new gown a year– When I came home had a visit from Iduna Bel: & then Mr Montalba & his sister Hilda– I kept her to dinner with me—& her brother came at 10 & fetched her & I went to bed.
